Mel Cane
My name is Mel Cane and I have been painting and drawing for more than 50 years. I work mainly in watercolours, but also use pencils, pens and acrylic. I am proud to have founded and run Allington Artists for 25 years, during which period, I exhibited in Oxford where I was commissioned to carry out pen, ink and watercolour studies of buildings in the area. When this disbanded during Covid, I started painting with Mary Gilson and Liz Hoppe and we call ourselves Phoenix Artists. We meet once per week at my riverside studio in Laverstock and hold annual exhibitions of our own, take part in the art trail and exhibit in other locations from time to time. As well as intricate pen work, I paint woodlands and meadows with a strong design palette. I love large floral artwork using wet-in-wet techniques. Of late, I have been experimenting with textile art and crafts.
