My name is Mel Cane and I have been painting and drawing for more than 45 years. I work mainly in watercolours, but also use pencils, pens and acrylic.
Some 25 years ago, I founded Allington Artists, a group of 10 or so local artists, who exhibited regularly around the Salisbury area.
During this time, I personally exhibited in Oxford where I was commissioned to carry out pen, ink and watercolour studies of buildings in the area.
After Allington Artists disbanded, I invited three of the original members to form Phoenix Artists. We meet once per week at my Riverside studio and we plan to hold annual exhibitions , take part in the art trail, exhibit at the hospital and further afield.
As well as intricate pen work, I paint woodlands and meadows with a strong design palette. I have recently started to do large floral art increasingly using wet-in-wet techniques.
I am looking forward to the new opportunities that Plain Arts will bring my way.
