Vicky Bilton
As a textile artist I work with a variety of techniques. Framed pieces are stitched using free machine embroidery and sheer fabrics such as organza, because it allows me to draw and paint with the needle. Landscape is an important inspiration for my work.
My bags are made based on Boro stitching which traditionally was the way Japanese textiles were mended or patched together. I like to use this method as it is a thrifty way to re-use fabric scraps which I have dyed using indigo. The denim fabric on which the upcycled patches are stitched take on a unique appearance.
