I am a member of the group Cleave, an artist's group formed in 2000 by graduates from Winchester School of Art. It was founded to support, sustain and foster individual member's working practice as well as to encourage and enable opportunities to exhibit. To this end 'Cleave' holds a meeting every month and one or two exhibitions each year.
The skills and expertise of group members encompass a wide range of media including painting, drawing, printing, camera work, textiles and installation sculpture. Work for exhibitions frequently responds to both the ambience of the exhibition space as well as to personal experience.
My work refers to important events and memories of my life and those of my family. The work operates like a diary or historical record. It is personal but common place. The common place may by virtue of its commonality stir memories for other viewers.
