Judith Viney
My interest in pottery began as soon as I left Teacher Training college. I enrolled at an evening class at the Croydon Art College and then took any ceramic class that was on offer. I have had my own studio since the 1970 s concentrating on producing mugs, jugs, plates, casseroles ,anything that can be used everyday. For many years I had a gas kiln and worked with stoneware clay but now have an electric kiln and make earthenware. I make my own glazes including majolica tin which I then decorate with oxides.
Later in life I completed a degree in Contemporary Applied Art concentrating on weaving and rug making. I work on a small loom which I use to make wall hangings and cushions.
Having had a career in teaching primary age children I now teach pottery to individuals and also spend time experimenting with new glaze recipes.
