G.ShaplandGeorge Shapland
Having retired from the Army after a 33 year career in 2017, George returned to wood turning having first started at school. He studied under the internationally acclaimed Master Turner, Stuart Mortimer, becoming a full time turner in 2018 and launched Butterwood in 2019. He joined the Register of Professional Turners in September of 2019.
Based in the Avon Valley, George currently specialises in turning segmented pieces in both domestic and exotic hardwoods.  All hIs exotic wood is sourced from Forestry Stewardship Council approved suppliers whilst his local wood is more usually found from storm felled trees or is reclaimed, often from firewood piles.  He believes in letting the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself.
